The UK public elects Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons. MPs consider and propose new laws and can use their position to check the work of government.

There are two Parliamentary constituencies within Calderdale:

  • Calder Valley County constituency;
  • Halifax Borough constituency.

Each constituency elects one member to Parliament. A Parliamentary election must be held, at least, every 5 years.
