Co-opted members

The Council values input from others when considering issues that relate to services provided to the people of Calderdale. To be able to obtain as much input as possible the Council is able to appoint co-opted members to serve on its Committees and Scrutiny Panels. Co-opted members are currently appointed to serve on the Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel and the Standards Committee.

Generally, co-opted members are people who represent a specific area of interest or issue of consideration. These representatives are not elected members of the Council, and are appointed because of their level of knowledge and experience, such as local church representatives. Co-opted members make a very useful contribution to discussions and help make decisions in relation to important matters.

Parent school governors are periodically elected to serve as parent governor co-opted members on the Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel. Governors of Primary, Secondary and Special Needs Schools are appointed to fulfil this role.
