Will tacit authorisation apply?
What happens to the information given on the application form?
We will process the application and respond to you within 14 days to arrange an initial inspection of the premises and processes. Once a decision has been made your business will either be:
- fully approved
- conditionally approved (works still need to be carried out but the food is not at an immediate risk) or
- the approval will be rejected.
An explanation of the reasons will accompany the rejection notification.
Once approved notification will occur to the Food Standards Agency. Records of the other information provided will not be publicly available and will not be disclosed outside of Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, Local Government Departments and Government Agencies. The details will be used for the purpose of registration, enforcement and the protection of public funds.
Some food business manufacturing processed foods from raw ingredients (such as raw meat, unpasteurized milk and raw fish) may require approval especially if they do not sell them to the final consumer. If your business sells such products to supermarkets, catering premises or other shops you may require approval to do this. The approval criteria are somewhat complex and it would be advisable to speak to an officer in Environmental Health to identify if you need approval. If you process meat (mincing, or cutting primal joints) for caterers or other such institutions you may also require approval.
Please note this information only applies to businesses operating in the Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council area. If you are operating elsewhere you should contact that local council.
The approval criteria are higher than that for normal food business and there are requirements on businesses for an increased level of documentation and controls. The additional requirements then allow your business to sell throughout the UK and export your products to Europe once approved
