Breast Cancer Care's Best Foot Forward offers free health walks for people affected by breast cancer in Calderdale and Kirklees
The aim of the Best Foot Forward initiative is to encourage people to become and remain physically active. Research has shown that physical activity after breast cancer can improve cancer-related fatigue, aid recovery after surgery and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Breast Cancer Care's Best Foot Forward walks are free, low impact, volunteer led health walks lasting between 30 minutes and an hour. The walks follow a set route that have been assessed for all abilities, and involve walking at a purposeful, brisk pace, relative to each individual. They provide a supportive and sociable environment for people who have had, or are undergoing, treatment for breast cancer and would like to be more active. After each walk the group gathers in a café for refreshments and a chance to chat to others who have had similar experiences. Walkers are invited to bring a family member or friend with them on the walks.
The walks take place on Wednesdays in a number of locations across the Calderdale and Kirklees area, including Beaumont Park, Greenhead Park, Slaithwaite, Shibden Park and Calder & Hebble Navigation Canal. For walk details and times please call 0114 263 6480, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk/bestfootforward
