We are a charity which provides a free advice and information service for older people, their relatives and carers. We offer a national advice line and an email enquiry service. You can make an appointment to talk to an experienced advisor who can help you to get the best care and support in your own home, in hospital or in residential care.
We can advise on:
<> paying for care home fees and choosing a care home
<> top-up fees and if they should be paid
<> your rights and what help to expect from social services and the NHS
<> your housing options
<> coping with worsening health and help with things you struggle to do
<> support available for carers
<> managing your money and affairs if you become too ill to do this yourself
<> entitlement to benefits
We produce up to date information guides about the most common issues affecting older people. You can download them free from www.independentage.org or order by phone on 0845 262 1863
What to expect
When you phone us, if it's a quick enquiry we may immediately give you the information you ask for or tell you where to find it. If your situation is quite complex and you need more time to discuss the issue we can offer you a telephone appointment to speak to a trained, experienced advice worker. Telephone appointments can last up to half an hour.
We aim to help you explore your situation and look at practical ways you can improve it.
