This is a local nature reserve managed by Calderdale Countryside and Woodlands Service. The site is home to over 130 species of plant, 200 species of birds, and large numbers of animal species. It is possibly the most important wildlife site in Calderdale.
Cromwell Bottom is split into three areas by the river Calder. At present there is no public access to North Loop. At Tag Loop there are woodlands, grasslands and ponds. There is a well made path that is accessible for wheelchair users and allows visitors to see much of the site. Brookfoot Loop is a much wilder place, with large amounts of scrub, wet woodland, two lagoons and lowland bog.
The main access to Cromwell Bottom is from the A6025 Brighouse to Elland Road. There is a car park at OS grid reference SE124233. There are no public toilets on the site.
You can download an audio guide to the site from Natural England
