Full description:
Aviary, now disused. c1870. Dressed stone with ashlar dressings, slate and corrugated iron roofs. 3 storey central tower, with dentilated first floor band, moulded and dentilated upper floor band and deep bracketed eaves cornice. Pyramidal hipped roof with curved rear gable. Slightly projecting tower has central pointed arch doorway with flanking lancets, above 3 lancets, and above again a pair of lancets flanked by single lancets. The side faces of the top stage have 3 lancets. The flanking single storey wings each have 6 tall lancets, the lower half blocked, alternating with 5 pairs of small segment arched openings, now blocked. Originally the wings had hipped roofs, now with lean-to corrugated iron roofs, the front originally had a single storey cage along the front. This building was built as an aviary for Shaw Park.
