ACE Education Advice and Training

Description: Offers a comprehensive range of advice and information on education issues. Information is based on current education law and guidance and covers state funded education for children aged 5-16 years in England only.

Active Fun Centre (HX2 8DB)

Description: Large, clean soft play gym, interactive equipment, rope bridge, 2 slides, 3 ball pools, toddler area and ball pool, café area, multisensory room, changing room with profiling bed and hoist, large car park. Registered with CQC and Ofsted to provide care across a range of settings. Childcare available at weekends and during school holidays at our soft play gym. Telephone for enquiries. Children's parties £100 for exclusive use of the soft play gym (2hours), party pack (optional) £1; kitchen uses multisensory room hire available. Drop in `Stay and Play sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.30-3.30pm Term Time only for children and families. Weekend Club and School Holiday Clubs available.

Adult Learning (HX1 1PU)

Description: A range of courses running throughout Calderdale for adults. You may want to participate in adult learning to changes your lifestyle, be creative, intellectually challenged and stimulated. You may want to learn for your health, to gain new skills, develop your family, community or enhance your quality of life as well as access to work and career opportunities. We also offer a range of Saturday courses which are ideal if you are short of time, or would like to do a taster before embarking on a longer course.

Box 4 Fitness (HX7 5LR)

Description: We welcome everyone in the community, who wants to train for fitness as well as those interested in amateur boxing as a sport. We're a friendly, supportive club that offers a safe, healthy environment for everyone to train together. Various sessions for all ages and abilities - Please ring for further information.

Branching Out (HX1 1BX)

Description: Branching out is a drug and alcohol support service for young people age 10-21 in Calderdale. There are four locality based workers that provide individual appointments, counselling, clinical treatment, complimentary therapies, advocacy signposting, positive activities, open access and drop in. We have a GP service on a Wednesday afternoon to provide prescribing, sexual health support, hepatitis testing & vaccinations as well as general health assessments. The Family Support Worker provides information, advice and support to parents affected by substance use, children of substance using parents and teenage parents. The Education, Training & Employment worker provides information, advice and training to professionals and targeted group work for young people.

Branching Out (Lifeline) (HX1 2EE)

Description: Branching Out is a confidential alcohol, drug and tobacco service provided by Lifeline. It is for all young people under 21 in Calderdale. We work with young people who are using alcohol, drugs, tobacco or solvents at any level, and those at risk of using substances, including standalone stop smoking services for under 18's. Branching Out offers a flexible service for young people with a wide range of services on offer. We provide honest, accurate advice and information, and support young people to achieve their goals. This includes one to one support, positive activities, clinical treatment, advocacy, C-card, Chlamydia screening, and signposting.

Brighouse Dyslexia Centre (HD6 3TH)

Description: Supports children and adults. Specialises in the assessment of dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and dysgraphia.

British Muslim Association Day Centre (HX1 4EJ)

Description: Day service and drop in service. The centre provides information and speakers who attend to discuss health issues. Other information around benefits, employment, winter fuels etc provided too, alongside other issues affecting service users. Group allows them to come together and interact in manner that accounts for their religious and cultural needs.

Calderdale & Kirklees Careers (HD1 2LR)

Description: Education, training and careers advice to help people realise their full potential. Information also available from Halifax Careers Centre, 16 Alexandra Street, Halifax, HX1 1BS. One to one careers guidance, training application support, benefits advice for under 18s, Universal JobMatch support, advice on setting up your own business.

Calderdale Libraries, Museums and Arts: Learning Team (HX1 1UN)

Description: Provides both children's and education services in libraries, museums and art galleries for children and their families. Free storytelling and related workshops are offered in a regular basis in libraries including busy Babies, Jolly Tots, Storytots, Tell Tales, Book Crawl. Two free reading games are also available - Ravenous Readers and the Summer Reading Challenge - and a reading clubber - Chatterbooks. In Museums and Art Galleries there are charged workshops during holidays such as Tudor Shibden, and Arts Week in August at the Piece Hall Gallery. A fortnightly Saturday Art club is offered at the Piece Hall. For 2 -15 year olds we have a free film club - Reel Adventures which meets at the Central Library during school holidays.

Calderdale Museums and Arts (HX1 1RE)

Description: The Calderdale Museums and Arts Education team offers an exciting, varied and enjoyable learning programme for schools, community groups and general visitors. Using exhibitions and the Calderdale Collections across five museums, galleries and through outreach that promote hands on learning for life.

Citizen's Advice Bureau Drop In (HX3 5RQ)

Description: A drop in session allowing you free impartial advice on a range of matters including benefits, healthcare, housing, employment, education and more. No appointment necessary.

Discover Library Services (HX1 1UN)

Description: The service co-ordinates and plans activities for children in Calderdale Libraries to make books and reading come alive. The activities include Ravenous Readers for 5 to 11 year olds, Summer Reading Challenge, Chatterbooks for 9 - 11 years, Busy Babies, Messy Monkeys and Jolly Tots, Rhyme Time (Up to 2 years) and Storytots (2 - 5 years) programme operates throughout Calderdale. Tell tales Storytimes for 4 - 7 years. They usually last for 1 hour and run during the holiday periods. Reel Adventure Film club where 12 - 15 year olds see films for free. Private Day Nurseries or childminders can have a pre-school ticket which allows up to 25 books for 6 weeks, fine free, to use in the setting or home. To join the library just complete an application form - no ID is needed and books can be borrowed straight away. There are no fines on children's tickets and no charge for damage to children's books on under-5s tickets.

Dodnaze Community Centre (HX7 8DN)

Description: Dodnaze Community Centre provides facilities for the residents of a small isolated rural estate outside the market town of Hebden Bridge. Activities currently include a parent/toddler group, drop in session for older people, computer club, after school club, adult education classes and summer playscheme. We work with people ranging from babies to 80+ year olds.

Early Years & Childcare Sufficiency Team (HX1 1UN)

Description: Free and impartial service for parents and carers aimed at linking them with childcare and early education options in Calderdale. Signposting service for parents and carers of children and young people aged 0-20 looking to access local support groups. Language Line available to enable access to interpreters. Early Years Support Teachers (HX1 1UN)

Description: Specialist support for teachers and support assistants in nursery schools and settings for children with special education needs. The team allocates the Priority Nursery Place provision.

Education Welfare Team (HX1 1TP)

Description: The Education Welfare Service provides a channel of communication between home and school and between parents and the Local Education Authority to ensure that children gain access to, and benefit from educational provision. The team covers school attendance, education at home, exclusions, holidays in term time, child performance and entertainment licences, work permits and employment of children guidelines.

El Caracol (HX7)

Description: Spanish club for children. Children will learn through games, activities, music and movement. CRB checked teacher. Parents are welcome to stay. Booking required. Class times: 4 -4.30pm for 3-4 year olds 4.45 - 5.15pm for 5-7 year olds 5.30 - 6.30pm for 8-11 year olds.

Field Lane Children's Centre (HD6 3JT)

Description: Field Lane Children's Centre is a 30 place setting with nine places in the baby room and 21 places in the toddler room. The pre-school children (3 to 4 years) are catered for by the attached school nursery class. A variety of services aimed at supporting parents and parents to be are available, including parenting support, health services, information services etc.

Halifax Food & Support Drop in (HX1 1YS)

Description: The FSDI is one of the projects run by Christians Together Calderdale ( who are based at The Gathering Place 1 St James Road, Halifax. HX1 1YS. Their contact number is 01422 647390 and email is The aim of the project is to enable vulnerable people to access a drop in on a weekly basis and collect a free food parcel and gain support and guidance to enable them to move on from their current situation. This will include: people who are experiencing homelessness, destitute asylum seekers, people who suffer from substance misuse and people suffering extreme hardship. The Food & Support Drop In is run by volunteers and we rely on donations to provide food and essentials which we distribute.
