Calderdale Museum Service runs Bankfield Museum, Heptonstall Museum, Shibden Hall and Smith Art Gallery. It is important these facilities meet the needs of our audiences and your feedback is very important to us. 2014 will be an exciting year with a number of developments, including the opening of a new HLF funded gallery and exhibition at Bankfield Museum 'King and Country', there is also lots happening to celebrate the Tour de France in Yorkshire.

Firstly we asked if panellists were aware that Calderdale Council runs a Museum Service, 81% of respondents said they were aware of this service. However, only 53% of respondents said they were aware that (with the exception of Shibden Hall) all museums had free entry. Many respondents who did not realise that museums had free entry said they would now be more likely to visit the museums and galleries. 94% of respondents think it is important for Calderdale to present its history and heritage to local people and visitors in this way. A significant number of respondents however told us that we need to promote this service more vigorously to encourage more people to attend and enjoy the facilities.
The information from this survey has fed into several projects including the ctreation of a new museums website. Websites & social media still only reach a small percentage of users and we hope to increase this by increasing awareness, accessibility and function of our web presence.
Newspaper articles are a successful form of communicating with users and we hope to be able to continue to feed stories to the media for this. As we currently do not use newspaper advertising this is something we could consider if it may be cost effective.
It was very encouraging to hear that 94% of people thought it was important for Calderdale to present its history and heritage to visitors and local people.
Only have those surveyed were aware of our pricing policy and free entry to many sites. We need to empasise this in future promotion of the service.
