In 1830 the constable of Sowerby was approached by local inhabitants and ratepayers with a request to build a lock-up or gaol for the detention of local criminals. In response, the constable convened a meeting of local ratepayers to discuss their concerns and proposals.
This notice includes both the names of those who petitioned the constable and the date, time and venue of the meeting.
