Providing outdoor education to young people throughout Calderdale.
Our outdoor education courses are delivered by qualified instructors who work with 8 - 12 people. This ensures a personalised quality session every time. Every course is uniquely tailored to suit the requirements of individual groups and can be completed in a day, a week, a 6 week course or a full years programme of activities. We aim to provide courses that cater for beginners as well as the more skilled adventurers. Courses can be delivered at Mixenden, your site or a wild location.
The centre has exclusive access to a large sheltered reservoir which has great accessibility for all groups in many different water activities such as Open Canoeing, Kayaking and Raft Building. All the equipment used is of high quality and is regularly safety checked.
The centre has a purpose built mountain bike skills area that develops specific off road riding skills such as balance, climbing and descending skills. The centre has 20 high quality mountain bikes from size 11- 19 made by Orange and Specialized and are maintained on a regular basis.
The centre also offers a unique accredited motor biking skills and riding course. The programmes are designed to work on riding skills to help young people towards achieving their CBT. The riding area is also hard standing and floodlit to assist with good vision and continued riding even through the winter months.
The centre boasts a spectacular indoor climbing wall with nearly 100 established climbing routes with additional bouldering wall. The climbing wall has a variety of graded climbs from very easy to climbers up to a grade of 6b. The centre also hires out the climbing wall for groups that have their own insurance and instructors.
Mixenden enjoys a unique position located in the heart of Calderdale, situated on the edge of moorland with access to a large forestry plantation with great woodland and wetland habitats.
