Car sharing scheme
Car sharing is when two or more people, travelling to the same destination or to places along their route, get together to share the car journey.
Now people who live and work in Calderdale can car share using the new Calderdale Car Share scheme. The service is free to use and is brought to you through a partnership between Calderdale Council and HBOS plc.
You can register your journey details by visiting Calderdale Car Share|
. The system will then tell you if anyone else is going in the same direction and enables you to make contact through a secure email connection. Individuals can then arrange to share both the journey and the costs of travel. Any number of journeys can be registered. And different types of journey can also be registered (for commuting to work, for leisure trips, for shopping trips, going to the match at the weekend etc.)
Car sharing saves you money
- Share the fuel or parking costs between everyone that is sharing the journey.
- Reduces overall wear and tear on the cars belonging to those who car share (through less use and then less maintenance).
- From 3 July, those who car share the journey to work in Halifax town centre, will have access to discounted parking charges at Cow Green car park. The discount applies only to car sharers arriving at Cow Green car park, Halifax between 7.30 am and 9.30 am, Monday to Friday. This is a pilot scheme that will be expanded if successful.
You choose
The car share scheme is as flexible as you want it to be. You choose who you share with and when. There is no obligation to share with the same person on every journey. You can share with as many different people as you like. You can choose to be contacted by telephone or e-mail. And you can make notes on your journey record as to any preferences you may have, e.g. non-smoking passengers, females only, etc.
Top tips
- The success of the scheme depends on as many people as possible joining. The more members, the more likely it is that you will find a car sharing match. Tell your friends, family and colleagues about the scheme!
- Keep coming back to the website to up-date your record or journey types as they change over time
- Keep coming back to the site to search for new matches (because more people will be joining every week)
