Halifax's pedestrianised streets
Information for businesses
Guide to access and delivery
Southgate, Corn Market, Cheapside, Crown Street and Russell Street are all pedestrian priority areas with no vehicles allowed (other than for loading and unloading outside the busy shopping period).
Permitted loading times are between 4pm and 10am (with last entry at 9.30am to allow half an hour for loading and unloading).
There should be no vehicles on the pedestrianised areas between 10am and 4pm.
As part of its overall strategy for the centre of Halifax, the Council has installed a system of rising bollards to ensure that the traffic restrictions on the pedestrianised sections are enforced. The bollards do no more than enforce the existing restrictions.
Similar systems have been used successfully in other towns, but traders may need to adjust their delivery and pickup arrangements to reflect the strict enforcement regime.
You can still make deliveries outside the permitted times, but you will need to do so from a legitimate loading point outside the pedestrianised area. This would have to be done so as not to cause obstruction.
See how the bollards work for further instructions. If you need more information please contact us on 01422 392927.
