Safer routes to school
Introduction
Safer Routes to School is an initiative that improves children's safety on the school journey through a series of practical steps.
Safer Routes to School aims to:
- Improve the environment so that children have the opportunity to walk or cycle safely to and from school;
- reduce traffic congestion and pollution at the school gate, benefiting the children, the school and the wider community;
- improve road safety and reduce child casualties;
- improve children's health and fitness through walking and cycling;
- equip children with better road awareness and make the familiar with public transport.
