For children and teachers

Introduction

Children aged 11 to 16 are vulnerable road users and feature too highly in national and local road casualty statistics.

To address this, Calderdale Council’s Road Safety service, working with partners in the Calderdale Safer Roads Group, road safety professionals, pupils and teachers, have developed a new and exciting road safety resource called ‘Routes – The Teenage Highway Code’.

Routes - The teenage highway code

Using puppetry interacting with young people, ‘Routes’ is an innovative training resource which is being delivered to every secondary school in Calderdale.

The puppets caricature youth culture which results in road safety training being delivered in a highly interactive and engaging way.

Take a tour around the website and click on the local Calderdale page with local news. Schools are issued with their own personal log in so that local information can be uploaded, resulting in a truly dynamic teaching resource.

This resource makes sure that we can deliver appropriate, age related advice to students across the district in a cost effective way.
