Kill your speed: What we are doing
It will take a long time to persuade some drivers to change their attitude to speeding; that is why the Council has introduced traffic calming measures in many residential areas. These measures include road humps, cushions, chicanes and road narrowings. All these features are designed to physically slow traffic down. They give motorists more time to avoid accidents, and can reduce pedestrian casualties by as much as sixty percent.
Not all roads are suitable for traffic calming and in these cases police involvement is necessary.
