Public rights of way

West Yorkshire Pennine Local Access Forum

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 required every council to set up a Local Access Forum.  The Forum’s role is to give advice to the Council and to the Countryside Agency on how to improve public access to the countryside in the area and the Forum’s members should represent a mix of interests including countryside visitors, landowners and occupiers, local authorities, nature conservation, people with disabilities and others.

Along with Bradford and Kirklees, Calderdale was one of the earliest areas to be mapped by the Countryside Agency in preparation for the new right of access to open country.  The three councils therefore joined together in appointing a Forum which is known as the West Yorkshire Pennine Local Access Forum.

The Forum first met in October 2001 and meets every quarter in either Bradford, Halifax or Huddersfield. All meetings of the Forum are open to the public.

We are now seeking to appoint new members to the Forum for the next three years.  If you would be interested in joining the Forum, please contact Sue Leffman on 01422 392131 for more information.
