Inspection and repair
Bridges and structures
Calderdale Council is responsible for the majority of highway bridges and culverts throughout the borough. However, a significant number are owned and maintained by other organisations, such as the Highways Agency for the motorway, Network Rail for rail bridges, Rail Property (most disused railway lines) and British Waterways Board for the Rochdale Canal and Calder & Hebble Navigation.
Calderdale Council maintains records of all these structures and can direct queries about a particular structure to the owner or organisation concerned. It also manages its own structures through programmes of inspection and maintenance. Inspections are carried out on a two yearly cycle and so we are reliant on reports from highway users to advise us of accident damage or an unexpected problem with a structure.
If you have an enquiry about a bridge or structure in Calderdale please contact the Customer First Contact Centre on 0845 245 7000.
