Bikeability update November 2011

Calderdale’s Bikeability Team have successfully trained 1,300 pupils in Calderdale and the target of 1,500 set by the Department for Transport is in sight. By training 1,500 pupils we are likely to secure a similar package of funding for the delivery of Bikeability from April 2012 to 2015.

Achieving this relies on the support of schools, clubs and organisations to take up the training. This free cycle training course is offered to Year 5, 6 and 7 pupils in Calderdale, focussing on Year 6 pupils providing them with the basic road skills to cycle to senior school.

One million more people have taken up cycling in the UK taking the total to 13 million. By supporting Bikeability in Calderdale we may see another million cyclists in the UK by next year.

To increase the numbers trained and provide young cyclists with the knowledge to cycle on the road we have offered 100 Bikeability places to Year 7 pupils. If you haven’t booked your free training yet contact:
