Pennine Cycleway

Group of Cyclists on Pennine Cycleway

The Pennine Cycleway (National Cycle Network Route 68) is England's longest 'challenge' cycle route.

It runs from Derby to Berwick-upon-Tweed, through remote and beautiful scenery in the National Parks of the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland. It follows quiet country lanes for 80% of its length, with traffic free paths, forest tracks and disused railway lines making up the remainder of the route.

The route enters Calderdale north of Scammonden Water and gradually descends via Barkisland to Norland Moor before the steep drop into Sowerby Bridge. After meandering via minor roads to Hebden Bridge there is a challenging climb to Heptonstall. Beyond here there is a choice of route, westwards through Blackshaw Head and over the moors to Burnley or northwards over Widdop Moor to Colne where the routes rejoin.
