Web site performance

Site status monitor

We use an independent site monitoring service provided by Site Confidence to ensure our web site is performing satisfactorily.

We intend that this service should be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, occasionally it may be unavailable for short periods to allow maintenance to take place. Our aim is to exceed 97% availability across a four week running average. If the web site has to be taken offline for longer periods we will try to ensure that advanced notice is given on the home page.

Page views and visitor numbers

Each month the Council analyses the usage of this web site. The software system used to provide this analysis is SiteAnalyze|. Results for recent monitored periods are as follows:

Page views (also known as impressions) are used to measure web site usage, as this method is more meaningful than counting hits. Hits measure how many file requests a server receives, which can include images and scripts, whereas views are records of collective pages.

Link checking

We use our own link checking service to ensure that all the links on our site (21,381 at the last count, across 14,027 pages) are maintained in working order. Our aim is for zero broken links for those within our direct control (for instance, an external site may be temporarily 'down' due to technical reasons of its own).
