The Upbeat Kids programme is a free community based weight management programme for young people aged 7 to 17 years who are overweight, and their families. The clubs take place across Calderdale with children and their parent(s) or carer(s) attending for half a day on a Saturday morning or afternoon or on a weekday after school over a 10 week period.

NHS Calderdale and Calderdale Council are showing their commitment to the Change4Life movement with the arrival of the Upbeat Kids in Calderdale. Change4Life is a society-wide movement that recognises that to maintain a healthy weight, we need to both eat well and move more. Many families are making changes that will help them live healthier and longer lives. Visit Change4Life|External link or call 0300 123 4567.

What will we do on a 10 week Upbeat Kids programme?

Who can attend?

Young people aged 7 to 17 years who are overweight. At least one parent or carer must attend to support a healthy lifestyle change for the whole family.

Why attend?

Levels of obesity are continuing to increase in the UK and a third of children and two thirds of adults are currently overweight or obese. It is important to maintain a healthy weight as being overweight or obese can lead to an increased risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Confidence and self esteem can also suffer. Upbeat Kids Clubs provide a supporting and motivating environment to make healthy lifestyle changes for life!

Where do the clubs take place?

The clubs are running across Calderdale on Saturdays mornings (Saturday Club) and afternoons and weekday evenings after school (Weekday Club). The morning sessions run from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, afternoon sessions from 1 pm to 4 pm. Evening sessions are 4 pm to 6.30 pm. Families need to attend the programme for ten weeks.

What does it cost?

The clubs have been funded by NHS Calderdale so all places are free but must be booked in advance and work on a first come first served basis.

How can I apply?

We take self referrals and referrals from health practitioners. If you would like to book a place on the next Upbeat Kids Club in your area simply download and complete the referral form on the reverse of the leaflet.
