Our vision for social care
We help people and their carers who, as a result of disability, ill health or ageing, need advice, information and support to live safely and well.
We will help people to
- live independently and in good health for as long as possible
- enjoy the best quality of life
- take a full part in the community where they live
- remain in control of key decisions about how they want to live
- be free from discrimination and treated fairly
- maximise their income through work and benefits
- look after themselves and stay safe.
We will do this by
- giving people different ways to find information and advice about services
- making available a wide range of services
- giving people the choice in how their services are arranged by using their Personal Budgets
- helping families, friends and communities to continue to provide care
- involving people in planning to improve services
- raising awareness of abuse so that we can better protect people
- working with other organisations.
In 2010 to 2011 we will
- complete our three year plan to change how we provide social care - Putting People First
- improve how we support people from all backgrounds to ensure that everyone has fair access to services
- deliver more services jointly with the NHS
- use our resources more efficiently.
