If you want information about services, or to request an assessment of need, blue parking badges, disability equipment or personal support then contact Social Services - Adult Care in any of the following ways:

  • you can call in person or phone
  • most Social Services - Adult Care offices can make and receive textphone calls (textphone helps hearing impaired people to make and receive telephone calls).

Access to services for older people, people with physical and sensory disabilities and their carers

These teams no longer cover specific geographical areas; instead they cover a group of GP practices. Requests for services should be made to one of our customer service advisors. Customer service advisors can give information about all services provided by Calderdale Health and Social Care Directorate.

Our specialist teams will then deal with requests for services. Staff in these teams can give advice and support to older people and people with physical and sensory disabilities to enable them to live as independently as possible in their own homes or in suitable residential settings in the community.

Support is also available for people who are providing care for someone who is dependent upon them.

The type of care that can be provided includes personal care, day care, frozen meals, community alarm, specialist equipment and adaptations, as well as residential or nursing home care. The Customer Service Advisors at these offices also deal with bus passes for disabled people under sixty years old, and .

There is a charging system in place which is explained fully by staff to service users and their carers. Service users are also given full information about the Complaints Procedure.

Hospital Social Work Team

If you are going into hospital you may need help when you leave to continue to live in your home. If requested, a social worker from Social Services - Adult Care will look into what help you need and decide with you what services can be provided.

You can either contact Social Services - Adult Care before you go into hospital or you can ask to see a social worker during your stay in hospital.

Language translations and interpreting

The Council employs a language translation / interpretation co-ordinator. If you are having difficulty understanding letters, forms, or any other written information from any of the Council's services, or you need an interpreter to help you to discuss something with the Council, then the customer service advisors will put you in touch with the co-ordinator.
