Out of hours care
The Out of Hours Home Care staff will be on duty from 8.30 pm until 7.00 am the following morning.
What Out of Hours Home Care staff are able to do
The night-time staff will be able to assist you to the toilet, change your incontinence pad, assist you with your medication (provided it has been previously agreed), turn you during the night to make you more comfortable, change soiled bedding, empty catheter bags, make a drink and light snacks (but not prepare a meal), or just call in to ensure you are feeling alright.
They will change soiled bedding and put it in to soak. If you are not well, they will call a doctor/district nurse or relative.
What the staff cannot do
The Home Care staff will not be able to clean, shop or do laundry, apart from placing soiled clothing in to soak. They will not be able to deal with blocked catheters or any medical emergencies, but they will be able to get help for you.
Getting into your home
Access to your home will have been agreed at the time of your assessment with the social worker. You may need a door entry system or a key safe fitting, but this will be decided between yourself/carer and the social worker. We are not allowed to hold keys for the people for whom we provide care. .
Manual handling equipment
We can only provide limited manual handling resources, e.g. slide sheets and manual handling belts. If you require a hoist, commode or other larger pieces of equipment we will be able to place an order to the section that deals with these, and you will be contacted to assess your needs.
Cancelling the service
If your circumstances change, for example you are admitted to hospital or go to stay with a family member etc, you need to let us know as soon as possible in order for the staff not to call or get worried about you.
The telephone number you should ring is: 01422 343082. This is the telephone number of the Team Leader. You can leave a message on any of the mobile phone numbers you will have been issued with. The assistants will pass this onto the relevant Team. The office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Out of Hours Service Records
Detailed records of visits to your home will be kept in a specially provided folder that will be left in your home. The file will contain similar information to that mentioned in health and safety.
