Upbeat Kids Clubs in Calderdale
Targeting young people aged 7 to 17 years who are overweight and their families, the Upbeat Kids programmes will give guidance on how to lead a healthy lifestyle in a fun way.
Our primary aim is to raise awareness so that children who may benefit from this service have the opportunity to attend. Bear in mind that we would very much like to work in partnership to take effective action on this growing public health crisis. There are a variety of ways that we can help promote this free service through your organisation.

What happens on a 10 week course?
The programme combines physical activity, education and behaviour modification in a fun and supportive environment.
Typical programme based on a Saturday morning club:

How many young people can attend the programme?
Each club can accommodate 28 children and their families.
What will happen after the 10 week programme?
The clubs will offer further information on activities happening throughout Calderdale. There will be lots of exciting activities and exercise opportunities for young people and families to enjoy, from dance and boxercise to walks in the local countryside.
Who can I refer?
We take self referrals and referrals from health practitioners. To qualify for the Carnegie Upbeat4Kids programme young people have to:
- be aged between 7 to 17 years old
- be overweight
- commit to attending the 10 week course with their parent(s) / carer(s)
- live in Calderdale.

If I know of a young person or family what is the next step to get them on the course?
If you are a health practitioner, you can fill in a referral form with the family and send their details through to us. We will then contact the family and let them know where and when the next course will be taking place.
