Childcare sufficiency assessment

The Families' Information Service regularly surveys parents, providers and employers to find out their views on the childcare situation in Calderdale.
We wanted to know what you think about childcare in terms of
- availability (are there enough places of the right type for your children?)
- accessibility (are the places in the right area and are they open at the right time?)
- affordability (do the places cost too much and do you have enough information about additional financial help?
- quality (do the places offer a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience for your children?).
We spoke to over 1000 parents, our major employers and all of our childcare providers to establish a full picture of childcare demand and supply in Calderdale.

During Summer 2011, Kids and Mencap carried out a national survey into the issues disabled children and their families have in accessing appropriate childcare. This survey found that one in ten disabled children were refused a childcare place over the summer of 2011 due to their disability and one in three disabled children received no childcare at all.

Calderdale Council’s Play Development Service’s Play 4 All project decided to look at the childcare in our area and the gaps in provision faced by some parents. A copy of their report can be found here Local Childcare Survey [PDF file 349KB]|
