Fostering
Introduction
Fostering is when a child is looked after in a family that is not their birth family. Some children stay with foster carers until they grow up, but most return to their own families sooner. Foster carers share responsibility for the child they look after with the Council and the child's parents.
The Fostering Team recruits, trains and supports foster carers to look after children who have come into care.
Children and teenagers come into care for a variety of reasons and from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures.
Calderdale Children and Young People's Services is keen to welcome enquiries from all prospective foster carers who may be:
- Married, living together or single
- Employed, unemployed or retired
- Home owners or tenants
- From all ethnic backgrounds
- Aged from 21 to 59.
