Choosing childcare

Quality assurance scheme

The Family Services Team is assisting settings to undertake the quality assurance scheme - Steps to Quality.   The aim of quality assurance is to bring together all the different settings which work with children into a common vision of quality.

Steps to Quality has been developed by early years workers in the Yorkshire and Humber region and then adapted within different local authority areas.

In February 2006, two information sessions were held for all childcare providers inviting them to learn about Steps to Quality and submit expressions of interest to be part of the pilot. It was intended that the pilot would consist of between 10 and 12 childcare settings from all sectors across Calderdale.

The roll out of Steps to Quality for all childcare settings commenced in October 2006 following completion and evaluation of the pilot.

At present 11 settings have now achieved Step 1 and started Step 2 in October 2007, and 31 settings are ongoing.  The next intake of settings for Step 1 started in October 2007.
