Current childcare situation
- We have over 400 registered childcare providers in Calderdale, including childminders, day nurseries, pre schools, creches, children's centres and out of school / holiday clubs.
- There are 37,484 children and young people aged between 0-14 in Calderdale. There are currently 15 childcare places per 100 children. By 2010, Calderdale will benefit from 17 children's centres, aiming to reach over 12,000 children aged 0-4.
- Calderdale currently has six early years professionals working in the childcare sector. Seventy-one per cent of the qualified Calderdale childcare workforce is educated to at least Level 3.
- Thirteen different languages are spoken by workers in the childcare sector in Calderdale.
- Fifty-nine per cent of the registered childcare in Calderdale is graded as 'good' or 'outstanding'.
- The average cost of a full-time daycare place in a day nursery in Calderdale is £138 per week. The average cost of a full-time daycare place with a childminder in Calderdale is £115 per week. The average cost of an after school place in Calderdale is £9.50 for an after school session.
- Ninety-three per cent of Calderdale's 3 and 4 year olds are accessing their free early education entitlement.
- Twenty per cent of the eligible population in Calderdale is taking up the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit.
