Childcare Counts

Next steps - our action plan

Between 2008 and 2010, the Family Services Team will work with our partners to:

  • Improve access to information about childcare and help with the costs of childcare for all parents in Calderdale via the Families' Information Service.
  • Establish area forums to involve parents in the development of childcare in their community.
  • Develop a children's centre in every community to offer integrated early education and care, family support and health services.
  • Plan for the extension of the early education entitlement from 12.5 to 15 hours a week by September 2010.
  • Ensure that by 2010 all primary schools provide access to high quality wrap-around childcare between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm, five days a week for 48 weeks a year, combined with a varied menu of activities to enhance achievement and broaden interests.
  • Ensure that by 2010 all secondary schools provide access to a varied menu of study support and enrichment activities and are a safe place to be.
  • Ensure that by 2015 all full-day care settings employ a graduate with early years professional status.
  • Annually review the results of the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment.
  • Contribute to the Calderdale Family and Parenting Support Strategy and widely publicise its aims and objectives.
