Calculation of charges

Your charge per week will be calculated by -

Your Income less Personal Allowance less Your Expenses less 15% Deduction equals Assessed Income

or

Actual cost of services less Council Subsidy equals Subsidised Cost / Hour times Amount of Service equals Subsidised Cost

or

Maximum Charge - no-one pays more than £204.00 per week.

Your charge per week will be Assessed IncomeSubsidised Cost or Maximum Charge whichever is the least.

Employment and Support Allowance

Includes:

  • State Benefits.
    Retirement pension, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Disability Benefits, Pension Credit - Guarantee.
  • Pensions.
    Occupational and private pensions.
  • Income from savings over £14,250.
    This is called ‘Tariff Income’ and is £1 for every £250 over £14,250.
  • Any other income.

Income does not include:

  • Earnings.
  • Mobility Allowance or Disability Living Allowance.
  • War Disablement Pension.
  • War Widows Pension.
  • Night Rate Disability Living Allowance (unless you receive our services at night).
  • Pension Credit - Savings

Personal allowance

This is worked out by adding together your

  • Basic Income Support Allowance excluding Severe Disability Premium
  • Age Related Premium,
  • Disability Premium,
  • other Premiums,

and then adding 25% of this total.


Expenses

Includes:

  • Your housing costs, mortgage or rent payment, less any Housing Benefit
  • An allowance for building maintenance costs if you are an owner occupier
  • Costs related to your disability within our guidelines as ‘reasonable’.
    Such as:
    Private Care Services; Laundry; Special diets;
    Clothing and footwear; Bedding; Heating;
    Gardening; Equipment; Transport; Holidays;
    Prescriptions; Communications;
    Personal Assistance.

15% deduction

Calderdale Council has decided to take account of 85% of what is left when your Personal Allowance and Expenses are deducted from your Income.


Assessed Income

If your Assessed Income is nothing, or a minus figure, you will not have to pay these charges.

If your Assessed Income is less than the Subsidised Cost of your services and less than the Maximum Charge, your Assessed Income figure will be the charge you pay.


Actual cost of services

  • Home Care £11.95 to £27.16 per hour
  • Day Care / Day Support £30.00 to £147.00 per day
  • Shared Lives £40.00 per full day, £20.00 per half day
  • Day Sitting £10.72 to £15.98 per hour
  • Night Sitting - Waking £90.00 to £116.10 per night
  • Night Sitting - Sleeping £33.00 to £62.30 per night.

Subsidised cost of services

  • Home Care £9.90 per hour
  • Day Care / Day Support £12.12 per day, £6.07 per half-day
  • Shared Lives £12.12 per day, £6.07 per half-day (excluding meals)
  • Day Sitting £9.08 per hour
  • Night Sitting - Waking £45.44 per night
  • Night Sitting - Sleeping £22.74 per night
  • Transport £2.76 per return trip if not included in service cost.

Subsidised cost

The subsidised cost of your package of care is the total of the unit cost of each service multiplied by the number of time units you receive each service.

If you receive a Supporting People Service the charge for this is included in the Subsidised Cost.

If the Subsidised Cost is less than your Assessed Income and less than the Maximum Charge you will pay the Subsidised Cost.


Maximum charge

No matter how much care a service user needs they will not have to pay more than £204.

These charges do not include the cost of any meals, or the cost of a Community Alarm.
