Beacon council
The Government's beacon council scheme aims to improve local government nationally by providing opportunities for "leading lights" to share their experience of improving services to local communities. The Government's criteria for awarding beacon status are excellence within specific or cross-cutting service areas; clear vision and strategy; effective partnership working; and a learning culture and willingness to innovate.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. These guidelines were drawn up to explain how to make Web content more accessible to people with disabilities.
Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA)
Web authors fill in an online questionnaire describing the content of their site, simply in terms of what is and isn't present. ICRA|
then generates a Content Label (a short piece of computer code), which the author adds to his/her site. Users, especially parents of young children, can then set their internet browser to allow or disallow access to web sites based on the objective information declared in the label and the subjective preferences of the user.

brings together the widest range of public service information and services online. Providing information from across UK Government departments on topics ranging from travel safety and parental leave to special educational needs and local NHS services.
Browsealoud
Browsealoud|
is a computer program that reads out the words on a (Browsealoud enabled) website, as you move the cursor over words, they are spoken aloud. Browsealoud is free for anyone to use, all you need is the free Browsealoud plug-in.
