A guide to Council services

Ethnic Minority Achievement

Calderdale currently receives funding from the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant. The focus of this funding is to support groups of pupils identified nationally as underachieving. In the case of Calderdale these groups are Pakistani, Bangladeshi and African Caribbean pupils. Eighty-five per cent of the funding is devolved directly into the schools which have larger numbers of pupils from these groups. The remaining 15 per cent of the funding is centrally retained for strategic purposes and to provide schools with access to information, training and guidance.

There is a Senior Teacher for Isolated Minority Ethnic pupils whose role is to provide schools with information, guidance and support in relation to refugees and asylum seekers, other new arrivals from overseas and minority ethnic pupils in schools with small numbers of such pupils.
