The Shay Stadium

Introduction

Welcome to the Council's web page for the Shay Stadium.

The construction of the East Stand is nearing completion. The finishing touches are being carried out internally and now the weather has improved contractors are carrying out the remaining external work and completing the car park.

As soon as that external work is complete the Council will begin the internal fit out and staff recruitment and training. It is hoped that the stand will be open for use in March 2010.

The opening date has been delayed slightly as a result of the severe weather we have been experiencing.

The Council has committed £4.5m of capital funding to complete the east stand. Once completed we will make sure:

• The east stand is fully completed as a venue for football and rugby league with a 3,500 seated capacity;
• There are conferencing and banqueting facilities that can be used outside of match days;
