Central Library meeting rooms

The Central Library has three meeting rooms, which are available for hire to the general public and other council departments. The rooms can be used for any type of meeting from interviews to committee meetings and craft fairs. The layout of the rooms can be arranged to suit your requirements.

Facilities

Meeting rooms 1 and 2 now have automatic speech enhancement through surveillance microphones. The rooms can be operated together or individually for separate meetings. An induction loop system has been installed to provide full accessibility for the hard of hearing.

There is a kitchen area available for use at a small charge. The hirer must make their own arrangements for preparation and cleaning up of the area after the meeting.

Also available for hire are a flipchart, television, video recorder, screen, stand, slide projector and overhead projector, a PowerPoint projector and a laptop computer.

There is a drinks vending machine and a water cooler available for public use.

Disabled access is available to all three meeting rooms; this can be arranged at the time of booking.

Room sizes

Meeting Rooms 1 and 2

34ft 6ins x 25ft each, holding 70 people lecture style or 32 people committee style. These rooms can be used combined to measure 69ft x 25ft and hold 140 people lecture style or 64 committee style.

Meeting Room 3

29ft x 13ft and holds 30 people lecture style or 18 people committee style.

Setting up time and clearing up time, for hirers and their guests to disperse, must be pre booked and paid for. Additional time, outside the agreed contract, will be chargeable.

Notes

  1. All prices are per hour with a minimum booking period of 2 hours, all part hours will be charged to the nearest half hour.

  3. Commercial bookings and special events are by negotiation.
  4. Additional charges may be made in the event of special requirements, for example additional lighting, staffing, piano tuning etc.
  5. Use of kitchen and / or crockery and other ancillary facilities, when and where available, are charged as follows:

    There is no licensed bar.
    Discounts to Registered Charities are 50% for room hire only. Fund raising events are charged at full price.
