Clay House

How to find Clay House

Driving

From Halifax

Take the A629 and follow signs for Huddersfield. Go past the Calderdale Royal Hospital and down the hill - there's a Shell and MacDonalds at the bottom. Keep on going but get into the right hand lane and then turn right to the junction of the A629 and A6026, then cross the mini roundabout and follow the signs for Stainland.

After about ½ mile there is a set of traffic lights, turn right - there is a brown + white signpost reading 'Clay House'. Immediately on your right after turning is a car park - this is the main car park for Clay House. There is a footbridge across the river to the house. You can see Clay House across to your right as you approach the traffic lights.

From the M62

From Leeds or Bradford

The easiest non-motorway route is to Halifax on the A58; cross the big flyover across Dean Clough, then left at the first roundabout, and follow signs for Huddersfield then follow the directions 'From Huddersfield'.

Sat Nav users

Please be aware that if you come from M62 / J24, your Sat Nav might well try to take you by the shortest route, through Blackley down to Elland and then down to West Vale. In a car this is no problem, but lorry or van drivers are advised to follow the route described above to avoid descending a series of steep and twisty roads through a series of residential areas, where cars double park. It's about half a mile further by the route above, but there is nowhere to get stuck.
