Routes and facilities

Introduction

Calderdale is blessed with a number of long distance cycle routes that cross the district mainly on traffic-free tracks or lightly trafficked roads.

Calder Valley Cycleway

This passes from west to east from the Rochdale boundary at Warland to Sowerby Bridge, with work due to start in 2007 on its extension to the Kirklees boundary at Cooper Bridge. It forms part of National Cycle Network route 66 which runs from Manchester to Beverley via Leeds and York.

Hebble Trail

The Hebble Trail branches off this route at Calder and Hebble junction, providing a short traffic-free link with Halifax town centre.

Pennine Cycleway

Route 68 of the National Cycle Network, this crosses into the district from Kirklees at Scammonden, passing though Sowerby Bridge and Hebden Bridge before climbing across the moors again to the Lancashire boundary.

West Yorkshire Cycle Route

Another long distance leisure ride which passes through on its 150-mile circuit of the old West Yorkshire boundary. Entering at Scammonden in the south the route runs via Rishworth Moor, Cragg Vale and Mytholmroyd before climbing to the Bradford boundary at Ovenden Moor.
