Family exercise

Better living Families are fun physical activity and healthy lifestyles clubs for overweight young people and their families. Clubs run for 2 hours a week for a set number of weeks and are free of charge. Sessions run in Leisure Centres and Schools across Calderdale on week days after school and on Saturdays.

Upon completion of the free course, all Better living Families members receive an Active Lifestyles membership card that entitles them to certain activities across Calderdale at a reduced rate. 

Fun physical activities

Includes Dodgeball, Basketball, Athletics, Football, Rugby, Aerobics, Circuit, Cricket, dance and seasonal eg Christmas Disco.

Family time

Includes Rounders, Ultimate Frisbee, family ball games, family fun games, traditional fun games.

Healthy lifestyles classes

What’s in my drink? What’s in my lunchbox? Eating out, take-aways and fast food, portion sizes, meal planning, breakfast is important, triggers to over eating.

We offer a friendly, supportive environment to build young people's self-esteem and give them the confidence to try new activities and encourage families to make healthy lifestyle changes.

Eligibility criteria

Children over 4 years and young people who are overweight or have issues regarding their weight may attend. All family members are welcome. As the scheme runs as a whole family approach, at least one adult must attend with the child; however, the whole family is encouraged and welcome to attend.
