Singing, rhymes and a walk around Shibden Park, Halifax (HX3 6XG). Ideal for children aged 0-5 and their parents and carers. Meet at Shibden Mereside at 10.30am.

Wednesday 2nd May
Colourful Calderdale 1: Where the Birds always Sing

A chance to get out and up close to nature with a series of walks that let you take in the beauty and variety of Calderdale’s countryside.

Meet Chris Sutcliffe at 5.30am (yes in the morning) at the top car park at Shibden Park (HX3 6XG) for a short walk to listen to the dawn chorus and get a glimpse of early morning light on a bluebell valley. Don’t forget your camera.

Thursday 3rd May
Walk it together: Hebden Water circuit (PLUS Nordic walk)

Meet Alastair Bishop outside Valley Road Group Practice, Hebden Bridge at 10.30am for a 1.5 hour walk around Hebden Water. Two steep gradients, to be taken slowly.

Limited number of Nordic walking poles available to borrow from the leader for people who would like to try their hand at Nordic walking please book 1 week in advance.

Sunday 6th May
Walk the Wainhouse Trail

Meet David Nortcliffe at the base of Wainhouse Tower, King Cross, Halifax for a 2 hour guided walk of around 1 mile which includes some hills. Walk starts from the base of the Tower at 2.15pm. Access on foot from Wakefield Gate (off Skircoat Moor Road).

Charge: £3 per person.

Find out about John Edward Wainhouse, his life, his Tower and other properties connected with him and learn about his feud with Sir Henry Edwards.

Tower open from 1pm until 2.30pm for those who wish to climb to the top (additional charge). Walk organised by Calderdale Heritage Walks.

Monday 7th and 21st May
Walk it together: Ovenden Health walk

Meet Mike Barnett outside Beechwood Medical Centre, Keighley Road, Ovenden at 1pm for a walk around Ovenden. Routes vary depending on ability of those taking part but will be between 1 and 4 miles long and will often visit Beechwood Park and Shroggs Park.

Some routes are accessible with push chairs and wheelchairs - call the leader to check before attending.

Nordic walking from Shibden to the Beacon

Meet at Shibden Hall, Halifax (outside the cafe) (HX3 6XG) at 1pm to go on a Nordic walk to the Beacon and back.

Glorious Bluebell Woods!

Meet Steve Blacksmith from Halifax Scientific Society at 1.30pm at the bottom of Plains Lane, Elland (GR: SE109217) for a 2.5 mile walk through one of the best Bluebell woods in the North of England.

Donations to the Scientific Society gratefully received.Dogs welcome if kept on a lead.

The Magic of Broadhead Clough-Cragg Vale

Meet Julian Harber from Mytholmroyd Walkers Action on the Manchester platform at Mytholmroyd Station at 1pm for a 5 mile walk to Broadhead Clough Nature Reserve which is run by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

Suitable for families with children aged 7+. Bring a snack.

Meet Alastair Bishop from ‘Walk It!’ outside Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre at 10.30am for a 4.5 mile walk along the canal towpath to Todmorden.

The Haunts of the Cragg Vale Coiners

Meet Julian Harber from Mytholmroyd Walkers Action on the Manchester platform on Mytholmroyd Station at 11am for a 7 mile walk passing the houses of about half a dozen of the Coiners which are dotted either side of the Cragg Vale hillside.

Route includes two steep climbs and stretch of muddy path on tops but amazing views.

Perambulation along the Pennine Way 2

Meet Chris Sutcliffe at 10.30am at the car park below the White House Pub off the A58 (beyond Ripponden) for an 8 mile walk along the Pennine Way before dropping into the valley to return via Warland and the Pennine Bridleway.

Walk it together: Eaves and Leaves

Meet Alastair Bishop from ‘Walk It’ in St. James churchyard, Mytholm near Hebden Bridge at 10.30am for a 1.5 hour walk through Eaves Wood passing sites of old mills and Ted Hughes’ former home.
