Local parks and playgrounds

Playgrounds

There are a total of 123 equipped play areas across Calderdale. When and where possible we aim to provide play equipment for children of all ages up to the age of 14. These play areas can be found in parks, on recreation grounds and on local housing estates.

Inspections and maintenance

All play areas are inspected weekly by the council playground inspectors and annually by an external independent inspector. The equipment is checked for safety, damage and any repairs are carried out when required. There are three full time maintenance operatives who carry out repairs.

If you notice any damage or wish to report a problem with any of our play areas then please contact our Playground Manager on 01422 393258.

Improvements to play areas

An ongoing plan is now in place to improve all play areas in Calderdale. This may be subject to change where additional funding has been raised through extra funding opportunities and local community groups for improvements to specific play areas.

Partnerships

The Parks and Streetscene service is working alongside various community groups on play area improvements.

We wish to thank all those individuals and groups that have been involved so far and would like to encourage other groups to come forward and offer their support. Thank you.

This would include exploring possible sources of external funding for your local play area. Without this valuable help from community groups, there could be prolonged delays to the improvements needed to some play areas.

Inclusive play in Calderdale

We have been working closely with the Calderdale Parents and Carer's Council on the One Park for All project which promotes inclusive play. One of the main aims of the project is that children of all ages and abilities can play together and use the play areas in Calderdale.

Through the project we have been consulting with children, their parents and carers to find out what inclusion really means and what types of equipment or activities they would like to see in play areas. We have used this information to help us, and where possible have incorporated ideas into new playground designs. Why not go along to our first inclusive play area at Centre Vale Park in Todmorden?

There are a total of four inclusive roundabouts in the borough that are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. These can be found at:
