Manor Heath and Jungle Experience
Manor Heath Park
Manor Heath Park was once the home of the famous Halifax carpet manufacturer John Crossley of Dean Clough Mills, whose quality products were exported all over the world. His Victorian Mansion was built in 1852 with magnificent views over the valley. The house was demolished in 1958 after falling into disrepair. Royalty visited Manor Heath on two occasions: in 1863 by Prince Edward, The Prince of Wales and in 1912 by King George V.
In place of the house is the sunken garden, which is planted twice a year with magnificent bedding plant displays.
All the bedding plants and hanging baskets for the Calderdale area are produced in our nurseries at Manor Heath, along with young saplings for the Million Trees Project. The nineteen acre park also contains a woodland walk and wild flower area, planted with over thirty species of wild flowers and bulbs. You will also find a hornbeam arbour, a well-equipped children's play area for all abilities, picnic areas and seats, along with extensive grass areas, mature trees and well kept borders.
At the top of the park is the entrance to The Jungle Experience , the Water Garden and Bridge, the Walled Demonstration Garden and Surplus Plant Sales area.
