Calderdale Libraries, Museums and Arts offer an integrated learning resource called Discover, which delivers a
wide range of creative learning programmes for schools. Workshops are related to specific subject areas and
cross-curricular topics.
Halifax Visitor Centre & Art Gallery offers three core school workshops: -
-
Feltmaking (Key Stage 1 & 2)
Curriculum Link: Art & Design - Investigating Pattern
Your class will find out about the history of weaving and textiles in the local areas through the gallery displays and handling collections. Pupils will then create a piece of handmade felt using colourful fleece. -
Piece Hall Speaks (Key Stage 2)
Curriculum Link: Cross Curricular
We take your class on a fascinating historical journey around the Piece Hall to discover its secrets. This is followed by a creative, practical activity to design a photomontage of a local urban landscape. Children will use photographs, collage and rubbings gathered on their tour to explore architectural detail and perspective. -
Creative Crafts (Key Stage 1 & 2)
Curriculum Link: Art & Design - Picture this!
Your class will enjoy a practical, hands-on arts and crafts activity using a variety of materials linked to the current gallery exhibition. This will involve finding out about the display and interpretation of original artworks and completing a gallery trail.
The workshops are for 2 hours and cost £3.75 per child for schools that subscribe to Discover and £4.50 for other schools, minimum charge £85.
As well as providing workshops for schools we can offer help and advice on self-guided visits or museum trails, which will enable your pupils to make the most of their time at the Museum. We also offer an outreach service for schools that are unable to visit.
