This purpose built Victorian Art Gallery is set in a small park on the edge of Brighouse, with good access to the
motorway. It has a permanent exhibition of Victorian paintings and hosts a splendid mix of temporary exhibitions,
including many by local and regional artists.
The Gallery was refurbished in 2008 and had a new hang of paintings, which includes old favourites and a number of works on permanent exhibition for the first time.
Some of the oil paintings can be viewed at the Online collections gallery.

What will I see at the Smith Art Gallery?
The Smith Art Gallery provides a pleasant atmosphere to meet your friends, interact with beautiful paintings or to do the family gallery hunt. There is an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions in a range of media from paintings to photography and textiles, providing a new experience each time you visit.
The permanent gallery has a fine hang of oil paintings, mainly from the late Victorian period. They range from beautiful landscapes to important portraits and historical paintings to modern moralities. Works include Atkinson Grimshaw’s ‘Mossy Glen’ and Marcus Stone’s ‘Silent Pleading’. (Please note from time to time specific works may not be on display).
Exhibitions include work by local and regional artists and art groups. These offer a good opportunity to buy original works of art.
The Gallery shares a building with Brighouse library, which has a range of facilities including
