Dry Stone Walling Taster Day

Saturday 28 April, 10 am - 4 pm

This introductory course on dry stone walling for adults includes the theory and practice of this ancient skill. Bring safety boots, outdoor clothing and work gloves. £45, booking essential, call 01422 352246.

Secret Shibden Tours

Sundays, 6 May, 3 June, 1 July, 5 August, 2 September, 7 October, 4 November

Shhh.... Come along to Shibden Hall on the first Sunday in the month and explore the places you’re not usually allowed to look! Included in the usual admission charge.

May Day at Shibden

Monday 7 May, 1 pm - 4 pm

Don’t miss the Pace Egg performance, help build a green man, take part in May Day dancing and listen to traditional folk tales. Included in the usual admission charge.

Felt Making course: Jewellery and Gifts

Saturday 12 May, 1 pm - 3 pm

A 2 hour workshop looking at the history and craft of the local wool trade. Felting techniques, including wet felting and needlepoint, will be demonstrated and you will get the opportunity to make your own felt item. £12, booking essential, call 01422 352246.

In Tudor Times

17 May, 2 pm - 4 pm

A history / costume session aimed at adults, including a guided tour of the hall.

Raku Glazing

Saturday 19 May, 9 am - 4.30 pm

Glaze and fire bowls and vases using masking and wax resistant techniques, and take home your unique copper glazed bowl.

Shibden’s Spring Craft Fair

Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May, 10 am - 4 pm

Held at Shibden Hall, this well established craft fair exhibits local artisan made products, food and demonstrations. All day there are activities including cheese tasting, pottery, dry stone walling, felt making and children’s activities.

£2.50 adults, £2 concessions. No need to book.

Shibden’s Wuthering Heights Connection

Sunday 10 June, 10.15 am

This guided tour by Helen Broadhead includes entry to Shibden Hall. Meet at Shibden Park boat house for a guided 3.5 mile walk to Law Hill and other areas that inspired Emily Bronte. Stout footwear and waterproofs recommended for this moderately strenuous walk.

Home Herbal Preparations

Friday 15 June, 10 am - 1 pm

Learn how to identify and research our favourite garden herbs. We include a mini tour of the herb garden and provide you with recipes and ingredients to start your home production of useful, therapeutic, herbal products.

Dry Stone Walling: Stone Cutting and Shaping Course

Saturday 23 June, 10 am - 4 pm

Learn the techniques of stone cutting, shaping cheek ends and corbelling; all technical skills used by dry stone wallers. Some previous experience or attendance at a Taster Day would be of benefit. Bring safety boots, outdoor clothing and work gloves.
