Artist: Thomas Sidney Cooper

About the artist: (b.1803, d.1902). Cooper was educated at the Royal Academy School in 1827 and then went to Brussels to work and teach. He studied under the Belgian animal painter Verboekhoven and his influence his clearly reflected in Coopers style. Cooper returned to England exhibited his first work at the Academy in 1833 and continued with a series of 266 exhibits until 1902, record for continuous exhibiting. His favourite subjects were cattle and sheep and he was commissioned to paint Queen Victoria’s favourite cow for the Royal Collection.
