Afternoon tea
Artist: Harry Brooker, R.A
Date: 1889
About the artist: Brooker painted domestic scenes, in particular children. His well rendered Victorian interiors and scenes of everyday life are similar to the works of Thomas Webster and F.D. Hardy and others of the ‘Cranbrook Colony’.
About the painting: The work shows a mother and her children settling down for tea. The mother and older children are saying their prayers, but the youngest is unable to wait and is already drinking from his beaker.
