Galleries
Bankfield Museum has several galleries which include displays relating to the local area and which house items from different countries and cultures.
World of Textiles
This gallery displays a superb range of textiles from various countries, which includes fabrics and accessories. For example the World of Textiles displays nineteenth century patchwork from England and beadwork from India and Africa.
Duke of Wellington Regiment The West Riding
The Regimental collection provides a history of the regiment in detail. There are interactive displays bringing to life past experiences and operations carried out by the regiment.
Edith Durham Gallery
This gallery is dedicated to Edith Durham who was a traveller and collector in the Balkans. Edith Durham began travelling in 1900, her first visit was to Montenegro whereby her collecting of textiles and jewellery began.
Akroyd Chapel
The chapel has many of its original features giving a good representation of the Akroyd family chapel. Also there are displays showing the achievements of Edward Akroyd.
Toy Gallery
The toy gallery is full of children’s toys dating from 1870 to more recent times.
Calderdale Collects
This area of the museum displays items of local importance and interest alongside items from China and Japan, which have been collected by past curators. Frank Atkinson and Henry Ling Roth amongst others are represented due to their connection with Calderdale Museums.
Costume Gallery
Within the costume gallery there are various garments on display from around the world. There are two distinct areas in the gallery; there are displays tracing the history of women’s clothing in England, from 1825 – 1925, also there is a selection of clothes from various countries, for example late nineteenth century Burmese clothing.
Main Hall, Temporary Exhibition Gallery and Marble Gallery
These rooms are used for temporary exhibitions held at Bankfield Museum. See exhibition for current programme.
