Sound + Vision

BluRay comes to Calderdale Libraries

Collections of BluRay discs are available at Central Library, Halifax and at Hebden Bridge and Todmorden Libraries.

BluRay is the format to rival DVD. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. It offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVD's, at higher quality of picture and sound. Discs are the same size as standard DVD's and CDs and over 3,000 titles are currently available in the UK.

A BluRay player is needed to play BluRay discs. Players have fallen in price, and will also play DVD's. (Some will also work as a CD player). The Playstation 3 console also plays BluRay discs.

The cost of borrowing BluRay discs - and the loan period - is the same as for DVD's. Non-premium titles can be borrowed for a week for £1.60 and can be requested (as can most library materials) although a reservation charge may be payable.

Our collections contain new releases and back catalogue favourites.

Calderdale Libraries have always been innovative in the services offered. BluRay is proving a great addition to one of the best Sound and Vision collections in the North of England.
