An amazing array of novels ranging from new authors to bestsellers. All kinds of tasty stories for you to get your teeth into - but why restrict your diet to the familiar when there is also such a great range of contemporary writing to choose from. Be daring - try an author you've never tried before - today!

Try a different genre

If you have a fascination for other times and places, then take a look back in time with a historical or western novel or take a flight to possible futures as you browse through our Science Fiction and Fantasy sections.Resurrect the romantic in you by getting to grips with one of our inspiring Romance novels, and if that doesn’t get your heart beating faster, then follow it with one of our spine-tingling horror novels!

If none of this improves your life, then you may as well turn to crime. We have a vast range of crime novels available in Calderdale Libraries, from good old- fashioned whodunnits to court dramas to gritty present day realism.

Breaking down barriers to reading

Large print / talking books

For anyone out there who has difficulty reading standard size print, why not try our great selection of Large Print and Books on Tape which cover all the genres outlined above as well as General Fiction.

Paperbacks

If you are an avid and quick reader, but you don’t like to weigh yourself down as you leave one of our libraries, then choosing the paperback format is probably best for you. They are much lighter than the hardback version and that can make quite a difference when you take a lot of books out at the same time.

Reading difficulties

Many adults experience difficulties with reading. Most people don’t like to admit this and like to keep it a secret. Most people want to learn how to overcome their difficulties with reading but are not sure how to do this and are not very confident about asking anyone. If you know of anyone in this position, then why not bring them along to their local library. It’s a good place to start.

From car repairs to careers, from computers to cookery, from health to history, from basketball to biographies, from pets to personal development, from golf to gardening, from travel books to trigonometry - whatever your interest, we have books to cater for it. Ethnic materials

Did you know that Calderdale libraries have a range of books and sound and vision materials that are aimed at the various ethnic communities we have in Calderdale? We have books and materials in Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujerati and Polish. We also have Non-Fiction books in English relating to the parts of the world and the cultures from which these languages have evolved. If you are interested in these services, please come along.
